What does Joe say?
"Just relax, baby."
I didn't relax but I managed to get my house in some state of order, the food prepared, the present bought and the cake iced in record time. I was able to shower and put on makeup, curl my hair and find my happy place before anything went down, so to speak. Our friends and our families attended...it was warm and crowded and i think everyone had a good time.
I served chili and potato soup with assorted chips, cheeses and crackers. Then we had apple pie, cake and ice cream. Mmmmm...did I mention that I've already lost five pounds on my diet? So...I had a nice piece of pie and ice cream to wreck that.
I think the train cake turned out to be very cute. I meant to ice tracks and countryside but time closed in on me and I was forced to leave it at the tinfoil.
I think the foil did it's reflective duty as far as lighting goes for the candlelit photos.
I love you, my new old soul, my thoughtful one, my solemn birthday boy.

That cake is fantastic! My Charlie would love a birthday cake like that. xx
Does it make me a fag that I almost cried reading that last line? That's very sweet. And it's a Great shot of Sam. Those candles are glowing like lava! Awesome!
Heart Felt,
Thanks! The cake was super easy. Just four loaf pound cakes. Cut the end off of one and stack it for the engine. Then I iced the engine with chocolate, the coal car with coconut pecan and the caboose with rainbow confetti...all store bought. I put it together in about 15 minutes. No joke.

No, it doesn't make you a fag, it makes you a mom. And now you can't imagine your life without Silas...
We couldn't get Sam to smile for any of the pictures. It's all the people gathering around and looking at him that gets him, I think.
He looks very solemn. And very, very handsome. Love the last line!
Thanks, Cat! I think he's handsome but that's my job. Nice to hear someone who's unbiased say the same thing.
What a touching, sweet entry. It's so obvious that he is loved.
And might I say that the cake is stunning? What I wouldn't give for one like this!
I think I Need to call my mom. She ripped me off when I was a kid :)
This cake is fabulous and I love how you put so many candles on it. And it's a beautiful post all the way around.
Carmi,
When my eldest was having his first few birthdays, we lived near a Mennonite bakery and I always ordered his cakes. Then one day, he was "too big" for themed cakes and it made me very, very sad.
I try to make cakes for the little ones because I know the birthdays where my kooky cakes are appreciated will soon come to an end.
Christy,
Thanks! It's not the candles I love so much, it's the fire. plus they always fuss over who gets to blow candles. I figured too many would be just enough!
: )
