I've reconnected with a girl I went to high school with via Facebook of all places! She attended Zoe's After Party back in the summer and began dating another friend of ours as a direct consequence. I'm not into matchmaking but I love success ( so far ) stories! We've become close and because her daughter's birthday coincided with mine, she had us over for drinks and desserts night before last. Turns out she organized the perfect surprise party for us with a grand total of seven people all together. It was right up my alley! I was so pleased.
We were met at the door with shots of some Polish vodka with Bison grass floating in it. Burned like hellfire with a clean green finish. We each had our favorite desserts- cheesecake and coconut cake, in addition to tiramisu, pecan pie & pistachio layer cake! Oh. Lordy. It was all so good!
Flattering, isn't it? This is what happens when you start to blow too early. Actually, I really love this photo. The look on Joe's face is priceless. It's almost as if he knows how ridiculous I look without even looking.

I was gifted a lovely vintage Toddy Maker. The top of it reads: TODDY MAKER: READY IN TEN SECONDS! I guess I am the kind of girl who needs a quick toddy now and again.

We broke away from the liquor and sweets to play Cranium by the fire. I urge everyone to try to make time for the people they love this holiday season. It's so good for the soul. Not as good for the waistline...

The funniest moment of the evening: April looked over at me, after we worked through a turn where the men had to read a bit of sheet music, and asked about me playing clarinet. She was firmly entrenched in the band in high school. I told her I did not play clarinet. I never played clarinet! I was in the chorus. She insisted I'd played clarinet one year. I insisted I did not. (We've been conversing on FB for well over a year before "renewing" our friendship.) Finally, she said, "I don't think you are who I thought you were."
And that was so funny on so many different levels.
And that was so funny on so many different levels.

I'm really glad she cared enough to have us all over.
I'm really glad she took this parting group shot (minus one).
I'm really glad she confused me with some unknown clarinet player.

Oh, that was me. I played the clarinet in school. Lots of books on her shelves. Good sign.
Now that's an okay usage of Facebook if I ever saw one.
Happy belated birthday!!! Many, many, more to you!!!
"I don't think you are who I thought you were."
Hahahaha
That's really funny. And so good to have misunderstandings which lead to friendship. I should try that.
I also played clarinet. But, alas, I am not the unremembered player.
I am, however, a dedicated cheesecake fan. But that coconut cake is giving me serious pause...
