My thirteen year old tells me he doesn't want to come for Christmas.
First conversation since Halloween and I initiated it.
And he says, "Yeah, I don't think I'll come for Christmas soooo,
you can just put my $200 in the mail."
I was shocked and I was cooking supper.
I burned the pancakes on the virgin griddle.
Joe hugged me a lot and nuzzled my neck.
Then I took to my bed.
Upon awakening, I learned Willie had also had a turn of bad luck.
I hope we get our respective problems ironed out.

I'm sorry sweetie.
And bless Willie's poor old heart. I do love him.
Oh, honey.
I'm so sorry for you.
I'm so sorry. I saw you post this on FB and it was like a punch in the face.
What are you going to do? My parents would have said (and did say, when I was in college), "You sure ARE coming home!" I'm not sure that was the right approach, but I am certain that you will know what the right approach is for your family.
xoxo
Thank you all for the sentiments. I'm not sure what I plan to do. I need to talk to his Dad and get more information. And then I'll make a decision. I DO know some things I will insist upon in the future: A) Pick & Choose - If he chooses not to visit during the Summer, he needs to be here for the Holidays. B) Emails and picture sharing - I think this should help us not 'pretend' the other doesn't exist and it may shed some light on things. C) More direct communication with his Dad & Stepmom about school, his friends, his problems. This is a hard one. I wouldn't have filed for divorce had we been able to effectively communicate and share our fears and desires. You know? And my son calls her Mom but tries to cover it up. That makes me want to kick her in the teeth but it's not her fault. Or our son's. I try very hard to remember she loves him too.
I'm so sorry to hear it. Man, kids can really hurt a person, huh?
I keep thinking about you...
